Mouth sores are infections appearing as white, painful ulcerations on the inside of the cheeks and on the tongue. The most frequent cause for mouth sores is a mechanical lesion, like accidentally biting your cheek. Other reason for mouth sores can be an imbalance of the bacterial flora in the body. The factors producing this imbalance are stress, antibiotics treatment, oral steroids, contraceptive pills, altered food or the poor hygiene of the mouth. Other possible causes for mouth sores include diabetes, gastric hyperacidity, foods made with yeast, alcohol consumption, and refined carbs, like sugar and white flour. Mouth sores are affecting approximately 20% of the people and the symptoms include: inflammation inside the mouth, pain, problems in chewing and tooth brushing because of the pain, irritation in the inflamed area caused by salty, spicy or sour food, loss of appetite.
Homemade toothpaste against mouth sores
If you want to reduce the pain caused by mouth sores and accelerate the healing process, you should avoid using over-the-counter toothpaste, because of the ingredients that can easily irritate your infection. Instead, you can prepare your own toothpaste with natural ingredients. Mix 2 parts of white clay powder, 1-part mint powder, ½ part thyme powder and keep it in a small closed container. Once it’s time to brush your teeth, moist your toothbrush with water and generously add the homemade powder on it. Add on top 2 drops bee propolis tincture (30%) and brush your teeth.
Although mouth sores are not a serious medical problem and should not be a reason for you to worry about, you should know that leaving it untreated can bring complications like bacterial infections, mouth inflammation, or dental abscess. If you are prone to mouth sores and you had it more than one time, you should try to prevent it by brushing your teeth at least two times daily and regularly using dental floss.
