Soreness or DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is felt as a strong pain and high tonus in an overstressed muscle. Either is caused by an intense gym workout, practicing a new sport, or just putting a lot of physical effort in your daily activities, the soreness does not come on the spot, but with a delay, reaching the highest level 24 to 72 hours after the effort. After an intense physical effort, microlesions are produced in the muscle fibers. There is nothing to worry about, because the same process will increase the volume of your muscles, making it stronger. Actually, this is your body’s way to adapt to intense effort.
Get rid of soreness using homemade frankincense muscle rub
Although the soreness is nothing to worry about and will disappear by itself in a few days, there is no reason to endure the pain when you can make it disappear with a natural, homemade cream. Frankincense or olibanum is an aromatic resin obtained from Boswellia sacra tree, used for hundreds of years in treating muscle soreness and even arthritis. This is what you will need:
• 20 gr frankincense resin
• 100 ml coconut oil
• 50 ml fresh ginger juice
• 25 gr beeswax
• 20 drops vitamin E
Crush the frankincense until you obtain a powder. Mix it with the coconut oil in a glass, heatproof bowl, and leave it on the side for one hour. When the time is up, put the bowl on bain-marie for 30 minutes. Filter the mixture in a clean bowl using a gauze. Add the beeswax while the mixture is still hot and stir until you have a homogenous consistency. Leave it on the side to cool down and them add the ginger juice and vitamin E. For a perfect consistency use a mixer for 2-3 minutes. Leave it for 10 minutes without mixing and then use the mixer for another 3 minutes. Put the muscle rub in a glass jar with lid. You can keep it in the fridge for up to six months and use it when needed.
My advice is to use natural frankincense resin for best results. The pink one, with a strong smell, is usually synthetic frankincense and has no medical properties.
