Leg cramps can last for hours and can come even while we are sleeping. Fortunately, there are ways of treating and preventing these painful cramps, but before this, it is important to know what are leg cramps and what is the cause for it. A leg cramp is a muscle pain that can last from few seconds to minutes, and in the severe cases even one hour. It is affecting both men and women and it is more frequent in persons over 50 years of age.
The causes for leg cramps are: not moving the legs for long time, putting too much effort on the muscles, sitting on a chair in a wrong position, exercising without warming up. Leg cramps can also come for other reason like pregnancy, dehydration, drinking too much alcohol, Parkinson disease, kidney or liver problems, diabetes, or structural damage in the back, legs and arms.

Arnica and coconut oil cream is excellent for leg cramps, thanks to its remarkable calming and healing properties. Forget about expensive creams with chemicals that will harm your skin and body. You can easily prepare this cream in your kitchen, using good quality natural ingredients. You can use the cream every time you have leg cramps, because it has no side effects and you can enjoy its excellent calming and healing properties. You will need:
• One cup extra virgin coconut oil
• 75 g arnica dried flowers
• Two spoons cayenne pepper powder
• 25 g beeswax
Use a blender to crush the arnica flowers and transform it in powder. Put the powder in a ceramic bowl, together with the coconut oil and cayenne powder. Mix everything together, making sure all the ingredients are covered in coconut oil. Put the bowl on bain-marie, on low heat, and leave it for 30 to 60 minutes, until the coconut oil will melt and infuse with the rest of the ingredients. When the mixture is cool, strain it through a gauze and heat it again on bain-marie, this time adding the beeswax. Stir until you have a homogenous product and then leave it on the side until it’s just warm and transfer it in a jar. Wait until the consistency is not liquid anymore and apply it on the legs whenever you have cramps.
If you are using this homemade treatment and the pain is continuous, you should check the magnesium and potassium levels in your body. Magnesium and potassium deficiency are a direct cause of leg cramps. Also, make sure you walk at least 30 minutes per day and stretch your legs before going to bed if you are prone to have leg cramps while sleeping.
